What Kind of Documentation Do I Need to Provide TikTok Shop for Restricted Category Items?

This article will tell you what types of documentation you will need to upload to TikTok Shop for individual product approval

Overview

TikTok Shop wants to ensure the safety of its shoppers, so some categories require extra steps to sell within that category. Some require an invitation from TikTok, while others are accessible as long as you can provide additional documentation for the uploaded products. Most documentation includes pictures of the packaging and can range from the Drug Facts for beauty treatments to the safety certification devices. These documents can be uploaded u nder the Product Certification section of the individual product page.

Each category will also require certain information to be submitted under the Product Attributes, you'll notice all obligatory fields will be preceded by a red asterisk, these attributes will vary depending on the product and category.

While TikTok Shop does not mandate brand authorization documents for every brand, they retain the authority to request documentation from sellers whenever necessary. TikTok Shop may require sellers to obtain brand authorization for certain products, brands, and product categories prior to listing these products on TikTok Shop. Jewelry, Watches, and Accessories

Sellers who wish to sell jewelry, watches, or accessories containing precious metals, precious gems, or diamonds (e.g. pearl, gold, silver, platinum, palladium, etc.) must have been onboarded through a pre-approval process by TikTok Shop or request a category authorization. You can find more details on how to submit that request here. 

Once the category authorization is approved by TikTok, you'll still need to submit individual certifications for each item, as materials will be different for each piece. Documents required for the product submission include certificates of authenticity,  jewelry identification reports, testing reports, pictures of the product(s) and packaging, and any other information where applicable.

Product Packaging Photos

• Product photos must be clear and legible and show the physical product and its packaging.

• Photos must show all sides of the product and any information on the packaging must be visible, including the product name.

• Product photos must show the same product which is described in the additional required documentation.
• Images must show the country of origin displayed on either the packaging or on the jewelry itself.

Gold

Letter of Authenticity (LOA) or Certificate of Authenticity (COA)	Example
Must contain the name or description of the product that's being certified. Specifies gold purity.

Diamonds

Natural Diamond Certificate	Example
Issued from one of the following accredited laboratories: AGS or GIA. Matches the product category you are applying to sell. The product listed must match the images provided. The document is legible and free from any alterations. Contains a clear description and details of the product which has been tested.

Beauty, Cosmetics, and Personal Care Products

Sellers that sell beauty, cosmetics, and personal care products no longer need to request approval for this category, however, they must still comply by this category's rules. These items include, but are not limited to, beauty and personal care products like skincare and lotions, any cosmetics (makeup), and any other product that is intended to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled, or sprayed onto, introduced into, or otherwise applied to the human body (skin, hair, nails, etc.) for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness, or altering the appearance of said human body.

Sellers who list items in these categories must ensure the following:

• All product details are appropriately described and labeled (in both pictures and in the product description)
• Products must be sold in their original, unopened packaging with any accompanying documentation

Sellers who apply to sell beauty, cosmetics, and personal care products must submit documents that contain the following criteria:

Beauty, Cosmetics, and Personal Care Products that Have Medicinal Claims

These are items that are, by definition, both beauty items and drugs/medicines. Items that have medical claims may be required to submit additional qualification documents. These items can include dandruff-treating shampoos, acne treatments, and anything else that has an intended use for diagnosing, curing, mitigating, treating, or preventing disease.

Documentation that must be provided includes:

• Proof of valid FDA Registration (if applicable)
• Drug Facts label printed on the package.

Drug Labeling

Example

The product's active ingredients, including the amount in each dosage unit The purpose of the product The uses (indications) of the product Specific warnings (including when the product should not be used under any circumstances) and when it is appropriate to consult with a physician or pharmacist.  Specific warnings that describe any side effects that can occur as well as substances and/or activities to avoid Dosage instructions (e.g. when, how, and how often to take the product) The product's inactive ingredients and information that is important to help consumers avoid ingredients that may cause an allergic reaction

Sellers who wish to sell items under the Hair Removal Devices category must have been onboarded through a pre-approval process by TikTok Shop. These items require:

• Device manufacturer's Establishment Registration and listing (FURLS account)

• A copy of 510(k) Pre-Market Notification for Medical Device Class 2 or proof of 510(k) exemption from FDA’s Product Classification database

• A copy of current Good Manufacturing Practices certification or registration

• Product testing reports or certifications by ASCA-accredited testing laboratory

Electronics

Sellers who want to list Electronics on TikTok Shop no longer need to request approval for this category, however, they must still comply with this category's rules. Electronic devices include but are not limited to commercial appliances, beauty & personal care appliances, electronic accessories, hand and portable power tools, household appliances,  all electronic products with wireless capabilities (such as Wi-Fi-enabled devices), and all electronic products with Bluetooth capability (such as wireless earphones).

Sellers who list items in these categories must add to their listing a complete set of images of the product and packaging, including any information provided on the product & packaging, including any safety markings as well as submit documents that contain the following criteria:

US Certificate of Conformity / Compliance (COC)	Example
The certificate must be issued by a recognized NRTL (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory) accredited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)  TikTok Shop will accept this certification on the following formats: A sticker or embossed safety marking on the product. Printed directly on the packaging (a sticker on top of the packaging will not be acceptable)

Declaration of Conformity	Example
A certificate of conformity is issued by the manufacturer or the authorized representative that a product meets required US electrical safety standards or specifications

Pet Food

Sellers who want to list Pet Food on TikTok Shop no longer need to request approval for this category, however, they must still comply with this category's rules. These items include but are not limited to animal food intended for consumption by pets. Sellers who wish to list pet food on TikTok Shop must submit the documentation listed below to TikTok Shop as part of the product approval process. 

Children's Products

Sellers who wish to sell any kind of Children's or Baby products must have been onboarded through a pre-approval process by TikTok Shop or request a category authorization. You can find more details on how to submit that request here. These items include but are not limited to toys, strollers,  children's and baby clothes, baby car seats, baby and children's care and health items, and nursing and feeding accessories.

Children's products are products designed or intended primarily for children 12 years of age or younger. Sellers are responsible for ensuring that all children’s products listed on TikTok Shop comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). In addition, sellers who wish to list these products must submit the documentation listed below to TikTok Shop as part of the product approval process

Once the category authorization is approved by TikTok, you'll still need to submit individual certifications for each item, as materials will be different for each piece. Documentation required may include Product Testing Reports or Certifications, Children’s Product Certification, and detailed images of product packaging with all safety warnings and age rating

Pre-Packaged & Packaged Foods

Sellers who want to list Food Items on TikTok Shop no longer need to request approval for this category, however, they must still comply with this category's rules.
